ABOUT THE LAUREATE

The laureate's research is focused on the creation of new chemical heterocyclic nitrogen-containing compounds and the development of methods for their synthesis. His discoveries include high-energy-density materials that exhibit an optimal combination of physical and chemical properties along with high energy content. These materials play a critical role in the aerospace industry, mining operations, and tunnel construction.

Furthermore, Fershtat’s work involves developing innovative pharmaceuticals, including thrombolytic agents, antiplatelet medications, and vasodilators based on nitrogen-oxygen heterocyclic structures.

The VYZOV Prize is awarded for advanced research in the field of creation of multipurpose organic functional materials based on high-nitrogen molecular architectures.

Leonid Fershtat was born in 1991 in Tashkent. In 2007, he enrolled at the Higher Chemical College of the Russian Academy of Sciences affiliated with the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology. During his studies, he started working at the Laboratory of Nitrogen Compounds at the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry. successfully defended his Candidate’s thesis in 2015 and his Doctoral thesis in 2020. Currently, he serves as the Head of the Laboratory of Nitrogen Compounds at the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences and holds the position of Professor at the Higher School of Economics. In 2020, he was awarded the Moscow Government Prize for Young Scientists.
